Patchway House | Willow — A Quirky Off-Grid Hideaway in the Cotswolds

1 Bedroom House in Patchway, Conderton

Willow — a peaceful little hideaway at the foot of Bredon Hill
A beautifully crafted, off-grid, static, glamping van, lovingly hand-built by artist Samantha Dadd, with a proper king-size bed, 6ft 6in standing height, private garden space and beautiful walks from the door.
Welcome to Willow — a place that is anything but ordinary.
Lovingly designed and built as a little haven, Willow has been created as somewhere to cocoon, relax and reconnect with nature. Artist Samantha Dadd has approached the interior almost as a piece of environmental art: leafy greens, natural textures, soft lighting and carefully chosen fabrics create a tranquil, calming space that feels much more like a tiny room in the garden than a conventional camper van.
Inspired by the nearby willow trees that provide shelter and shade, Willow is designed to offer a peaceful retreat from the pace of everyday life.
A proper bed for a really good night's sleep
One of the most important things when designing Willow was the bed.
This is not the usual campervan arrangement where a small foam mattress has to be assembled each night. Willow has a permanent, beautifully comfortable king-size bed with a high-quality 10-inch mattress on a solid wooden sprung base.
The bed remains made up throughout your stay, with fresh linen, pillows, duvet and bedding provided ready for your arrival.
It is also full length, making it comfortable for taller guests.
And despite being a van, Willow has an unusually generous 6ft 6in (1.98m) internal standing height, so taller guests can stand comfortably inside.
A beautiful garden setting
Willow is a static, high-top, medium-wheelbase Mercedes Sprinter that has been converted into a comfortable, stylish and quirky place to stay.
It sits in a sheltered, shaded position beneath mature trees on the driveway of Samantha's gallery studio. The sliding side door opens directly towards a beautiful organic cottage vegetable garden.
Access is via pathways through a permaculture-inspired, companion-planted garden which serves Willow and one other Cotswold cottage.
The garden changes with the seasons: blossom and seedlings in spring; abundance and growth in summer; fruit, vegetables and golden leaves in autumn; and bare branches, starry nights and silver moons in winter.
Our busy lives can make it surprisingly easy to become disconnected from these natural cycles of which we are all part. Willow offers an opportunity to slow down, notice the seasons, listen to the birds and simply spend some time in a beautiful natural setting.
During your stay you have exclusive use of your own outdoor seating area, with a table and chairs surrounded by seasonal flowers. It is a lovely place for breakfast, reading, sketching, working, having a drink in the evening or simply sitting and watching the garden.
Comfortable in every season
Willow is professionally lined and insulated for four-season comfort.
Its position beneath mature trees provides shade in warmer weather, while full sets of removable insulated blackout blinds provide privacy, additional insulation and darkness when you are ready to sleep.
A high-quality two-way roof fan provides ventilation.
Inside Willow
Although compact, Willow has been designed to feel spacious, comfortable and uncluttered.
The front passenger seat swivels around to create a comfortable bench seat and additional living space. It has been given extra padding and upholstered in woven 100% cotton fabric.
There is useful storage throughout the van, including:
Storage above the cabin
Storage beneath the bed
Handmade wooden sideboard with cupboards and drawers
Clothes rail and hangers
Hooks for coats, hats and other belongings
Full-length mirror
Magnifying mirror
Plenty of cushions and throws
Soft spot lighting, ceiling lighting and fairy lights around the bed create a warm and cosy atmosphere in the evening.
Solar-powered and off-grid
Willow has two large solar panels on the roof, providing the electricity needed for the van.
The solar system powers:
Interior lighting
Fairy lights
Pull-out fridge
Low-power, slow boil, kettle
Phone charging
Laptop charging
A 12/14-volt slow-boil kettle is provided, together with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and milk.
Water and washing: Willow is genuinely off-grid and therefore has no plumbed-in water.
A generous supply of bottled water is provided for drinking and washing, together with jugs and refillable water bottles.
The van has a ceramic wash bowl, clean towels and flannel, and homemade toiletries made using wonderfully scented organic essential oils.
The washing facilities are simple but comfortable and are designed to fit naturally with the off-grid nature of the experience.
Cooking and eating
There are no cooking facilities inside the van.
Instead, outdoor cooking equipment is provided so that you can enjoy preparing simple meals in the garden.
This includes:
One-ring camping stove
Small BBQ
Pots and pans
Cooking utensils
Crockery
Cutlery
Mugs
Glasses
Washing-up bowl
Washing-up liquid
Tea towels
An outdoor camping table and tablecloth are also provided.
Toilet
A private outdoor camping toilet is situated just a few steps from the van, in its own toilet tent decorated with fairy lights.
The toilet and washing facilities are close to Willow and form part of the simple, off-grid glamping experience.
Please note before booking
Willow is best thought of as comfortable, stylish glamping rather than conventional self-contained accommodation.
There is no indoor bathroom, indoor kitchen or plumbed-in water. The toilet is in a private outdoor toilet tent, washing is done using the ceramic wash bowl and fresh water provided, and cooking is outdoors.
For many guests, this is precisely what makes Willow special — a chance to simplify for a few days and live a little closer to the garden and the natural world.
If you are looking for a conventional hotel room, cottage or fully self-contained campervan, Willow may not be the right choice. If you enjoy beautiful surroundings, thoughtful design, simplicity and a little adventure, it may be exactly what you're looking for.
Conderton and the Cotswolds
Willow is situated in Conderton, a small Cotswold village nestled at the foot of Bredon Hill.
There are dozens of beautiful walks beginning close to the van, making it an excellent base for walkers and anyone wanting to spend time outdoors.
Just 100 metres away is the lovely old Yew Tree Inn, a traditional Cotswold pub serving good food and real ale.
Samantha has also created a bespoke guidebook for guests, with maps and everything you need to make the most of your stay — including the Wi-Fi code, local shops, cafés and restaurants, walks, attractions, what's on locally and ideas for exploring the wider Cotswolds.

A place to stop, stay and slow down
Willow works beautifully for a peaceful weekend away, a walking break, a base for exploring the Cotswolds, visiting friends and family, or as a comfortable stopover when breaking a longer journey.
Samantha has lived in Conderton for more than 25 years. As an artist, she could have chosen almost anywhere in the world to live, but has stayed because she has never found anywhere quite as beautiful — particularly in the way the landscape changes through the seasons.
She is delighted to be able to share this little corner of the Cotswolds with guests.
Whether you're here to walk, explore, create, reconnect with nature or simply slow down, the hope is that Willow gives you time to rest, reflect and feel at home.
Come prepared for a little simplicity, a lot of nature, and a very different kind of stay.
