If you’re looking for a unique rustic experience, this is the place for you. One hundred year old cabin, originally built by a Hupa Indian family, lovingly and creatively refinished to evoke nostalgic comfort. You can get a real feel for rural living, with the mature fruit trees and garden. Right next to stunning Castle Crags, the River, Swimming Holes, and 10 minutes from Mount Shasta, and the ski park . If you’re needing to recharge and relax, this is it.
This rustic cabin nestled in the trees in beautiful Dunsmuir, Ca is the perfect place to relax and explore the spectacular scenic surroundings. Located virtually right ‘next door’ to Castle Crags, with the Famous Railroad Dining car and bar, the Sacramento River with world class fishing, and a 10 minute scenic beautiful drive to Mount Shasta.
Dunsmuir, once a bustling railroad town has calmed to a slow steady rural lifestyle in recent years. Historically charming, and now filled with some of the best shops and restaurants in the county, you’re sure to love the quaint charm of the city.
Built almost 100 years ago, by a Hoopa Native man for him and his family, the cabin is truly a space to relax and soak it all in. It’s surrounded by tall pines and features gorgeous seasonal garden with mature fruit trees everywhere. The cabin itself is luxuriously nostalgic, featuring decor from all decades past. The more you look the more little treasures you’ll see in this very special place. My partner and I have lovingly created a true experience for our guests.
The heating and cooling is very simplistic. There are space heaters and fans available for use. There is no central air, cooling, or heat. (We have just installed thermal curtains and a portable AC in the main living room. The cabin isn’t exactly air tight ;) so this is supplemental and does help a lot) . During the summer months, there will be fans, and we recommend to do as the locals do, and enjoy and frolic in the nearby lakes, rivers, and swimming holes! During winter, the fireplace works wonderfully to heat the cabin. We provide easy to light fire logs and firewood. Please do not book if you’re uncomfortable using a fireplace. All of the info for how to operate is in the house manual located in the cabin.
Not surprisingly, the kitchen is rustic as well. The antique stove top has had its troubles and no longer works. Finding someone to service it has proved to be difficult. However, I’ve provided an electric cook top as well as a countertop oven/air fryer. You can definitely cook simple meals here, but I wouldn’t plan on a thanksgiving style feast ;)
Please note that although extremely comfortable and updated, this is still an old house in the woods. We operate off of a well, and while Dunsmuir has the ‘best water in the world, it is still mineral rich and we recommend bottled water for drinking. The cabin has all new pipes, and the water is not dangerous to drink, but bottled might taste better! We made the decision to remain on our well rather than pump in the county’s chlorinated and fluoridated water. Although we do our best to re-home the little guys, there is a chance of seeing a daddy long legs and their webs here and there, and the roof is known to pitter-patter with little squirrel and chipmunk feet from time to time. Please do not book if this life just ain’t for you!

*** Dunsmuir is a very rural mountainous area. Please be aware that during the winter months there is a chance of being snowed in for a few hours in the morning after a storm comes through. If this does occur I will do everything in my power to remedy the situation as quickly as possible, however I cannot guarantee a specific time. Plans might need to change due to weather ***
